Eid al-Fitr
“Eid al-Fitr” is the most important religious holiday celebrated by all Muslims in Oman as well as across the whole Islamic world. For three full days, the Omanis get up early to have breakfast together.
It marks the end of Ramadan; the Islamic holy month of fasting. On the first morning of “Eid al-Fitr” people gather in mosques to perform the Eid prayer.
Afterwards, the celebration begins as people meet and show off new clothes, prepare special dishes to share with their families and friends. Children also receive gifts and sweets are exchanged as a sign of love.
Eid al-Fitr 2021 takes place on the evening of Wednesday, May 12.
Eid al-Adha
“Eid al-Adha” known as the "Sacrifice Feast", is the second Muslim holiday celebrated in Oman each year after Eid al-Fitr. The celebrations last for four days.
On the first day of “Eid al-Adha”, Omani people gather in mosques to perform the Eid prayer. Then, they start the celebrations and outing together.
Eid al-Adha 2021 takes place on the evening of Monday, July 19.
