The Mena House Cairo Golf club is situated right opposite the Mena House Cairo hotel, one of the finest hotels in Egypt and has a close view of the Great Pyramids of Egypt. The golf club is one of the oldest in Cairo and is situated right below the pyramids at Giza. To tee off in such surroundings is really spectacular. The welcome there was really superb and we were able to have a short break between the two nines to just sit down and enjoy the ambience for both the club and course.
The course is a nine hole and played in two nines, but what is different is that each hole has two greens to add variety to the round. All the holes are played with the pyramids in sight.
Teeing off on the second hole, a short 118 yard par three required a well placed shot to set up the par opportunity.
Although the course is short compared to the rest of the courses around Cairo, all the greens are well placed, the trees mature and ready to catch the slightly wayward shot, and the raised greens will soon punish the inaccurate approach. What an ideal opportunity to practice those short chip shots and to just soak up the atmosphere playing this course.
This is the perfect course to have a restful, memorable day and take in the sights of Cairo a little later in the day.
We did enjoy a quiet beer after the round.
About the Course: 18 holes (played on 9 fairways), Par 68, 5315 yards, rating 66, two tees
