The Bomas of Kenya

Bomas of Kenya displays traditional villages belonging to the several Kenyan tribes. It is the home to the largest auditorium in Africa. The village features replicas of traditional homesteads, or bomas, from 23 of Kenya’s ethnic groups. It also features traditional dances performed in its large auditorium.   

 

Bomas of Kenya first opened their doors in 1971, they have proudly welcomed over 10 million visitors.

About Bomas of Kenya

 

The word Boma means a homestead hence the word Bomas is in plural, it was established by the government in 1971 as a subsidiary company of Kenya Tourist Development Corporation as a tourist attraction, it also wanted to preserve, maintain and promote rich and diverse cultural values of various tribal groups of Kenya.

Location 

 

Bomas of Kenya is located in Langata, Nairobi.  It's exact location is approximately 10 kilometers from the Central Business District. 

 

Opening Hours

 

The homesteads are open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. Performances take place from Monday to Friday from 2:30 pm to 4 pm. On weekends and during public holidays, performances are from 3:30 pm to 5:15 pm.  

 

Best Time to Visit

 

Best time to visit Bomas of Kenya is during the whole year. However, it is better to visit the village during the dry season from July to October and also in January and February.

The Utamaduni Restaurant of Bomas of Kenya is the first of its kind in Kenya. Enjoy sumptuous meals that are as diverse as the traditional cultures of Kenya. Meals from the rich culture of Kenya are offered there.
